TAH Connections Project (CP) was a three year grant (2006-2009), awarded by the U.S. Department of Education, that provided professional development training to social studies/American history teachers (grades 5-12) in a consortium of charter schools in Utah.
Our professional development training was a combination of Saturday workshops and a 5-day Summer Academy each year. Each session devoted half of the time to American history content knowledge provided by various university professors and the other half to pedagogy, specifically "Understanding by Design"(UbD)(Wiggins & McTighe), provided by our Mentor/Coach, Tricia Gallagher-Geurtsen, Ed.D.
All of our content knowledge and UbD Saturday lectures/workshops and Summer Academy lectures/workshops are provided in audio and/or video form under "Resources". The content areas' time period runs from the Colonial Period (e.g. Revolutionary War, Constitution, Declaration of Independence), the Rise of the American Nation - 19th Century America (1815-1900) (e.g. slavery, sports, the Civil War, Native Americans, the movement West) through Modern America (1900-present)(e.g. the Cold War, technology and industrialization, women's liberation, the Civil Rights movement, the environmental history of the American West). The pedagogy piece focuses on "Understanding by Design" and its various stages.
